NORTH ADAMS, Mass. (WNYT) — A substantial water main break closed part of Ashland Street in North Adams as city crews worked to isolate the problem and restore water service. North Adams Emergency Management Director Brent Lefebvre said the break was on Ashland Street near the Roots Center, the former Nassif’s building. The city’s Water Department was on scene assessing the impact and working to isolate the break and restore water service. Ashland Street was closed from American Legion Drive to Summer Street. The city asked drivers and pedestrians to avoid the area because flowing water was creating hazardous conditions on sidewalks. Officials said updates would be shared on the North Adams City Hall Facebook page and this page as more information becomes available. The city thanked the public for its patience and cooperation as crews continued their work. Colegrove Park Elementary School closed early at 11:30 a.m. because of the break.
